I love tasting wine in a vertical—nothing gives me greater context, and here, that context really emphasizes the balance and beauty inherent in this 2018 Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Dry Riesling. Where the 2019 shows its oak upbringing, and the 2017 isn't quite ready to let go of its oak yet, the 2018 seems to have grabbed the oak with both hands and pulled it firmly into the back row. No longer is it front and center, blocking the view to the fruit. These are long-lived wines, but if you had to pick a vintage to drink first, for me, it would be this softer and plusher 2018 iteration.
