Tasting Notes and Scores
Bannockburn. Vegan. Certified organic and biodynamic. Deep ruby. Very meaty, with plenty of ripe black fruit layered with smoky, grilled notes. Chewy texture, elegant, velvety tannins. Structured, very long and delicious to drink now, but has the structure and depth to age for a long time. (FG)

Full screwcapped bottle just 1,169 g – bravo! Certified organic and biodynamic. Bannockburn. Farmed for various crops by Felton Road since 2001, purchased in 2010 and planted to vines in 2012. This 5.1-ha vineyard is on a gentle north-facing slope in the lee of the famed Bannockburn Sluicings. Planted with a broad range of clones including Felton Road’s own mass-selection vines at high density, it is a sheltered site with deep, heavy silt soils. 2022 is the second vintage of this wine. Spontaneous fermentation with 25% whole bunch. Aged for 13 months in French barriques, 25% new. Deeper, more concentrated colour than most, but then Bannockburn is not the coolest spot. Complex nose that's the opposite of flashy but draws you in. Very smooth and layered with the acidity well judged and fine tannins underneath. A wine that seems to have longer ageing potential than most. Persistent and serious. Though of course it still has the characteristic ripeness of Central Otago. (JR)
